山本がヨーロッパの抽象絵画に出会ったのは、1953年の初渡欧の際でした。その後、1960年代の東京画廊は、ルチオ・フォンタナ、イヴ・クライン、ジャクソン・ポロック、フンデルトワッサー、ザオ・ウーキーなど、数々の外国人作家の展覧会を通じて、日本に新しい表現を紹介しています。 若手アーティストの李禹煥、関根伸夫、吉田克朗、小清水漸、菅木志雄、成田克彦、榎倉康二が中心となって、1960年代末から70年代中盤まで続いた美術動向は、後に「もの派」と名付けられました。東京画廊は「もの派」のアーティストの個展を、1969年以降継続して開催しています。 2002年には北京・大山子地区にBTAP（ビータップ）をオープン。2006年に、屋号を東京画廊+BTAPと改め、東京と北京を拠点に、幅広い世代・地域のアーティストを国内外に発信しています。東京画廊は山本豊津、BTAPは田畑幸人が代表を務めています。 また1960年代は日本の戦後美術が最も熱を帯びた時期です。東京画廊では具体美術協会の吉原治良、白髪一雄、元永定正、前衛美術グループ「ネオダダ」の吉村益信、篠原有司男、また「ハイ・レッド・センター」の高松次郎
