耐火物は高温産業（鉄鋼をはじめとする金属、セメント、ガラス、ゴミ焼却設備など）における反応処理設備、および、搬送設備の内張り（高温の液相・固相・気相に曝される面）に用いられる材料を総称するもので、日本経済を支える素材産業の高効率安定操業や製品品質の高級化の観点から必要不可欠な材料と位置づけられます。 耐火物技術協会は、昭和21年の創立以来、国内の高温産業の発展に寄与することを目的に、より高耐用な耐火物の開発・改良、耐火物施工技術の革新、および、耐火物に関する基礎的学術研究の進歩・普及に務めてまいりました。 耐火物のパフォーマンス（耐用寿命・使用原単位・信頼性など）を決定する要因は、耐火物原料の特性（純度・粒度など）、耐火物製品の設計および製造技術、耐火物施工技術・技能、および、耐火物使用技術と多岐にわたり、それぞれの分野における専門的知識経験を持っ技術者間の組織を超えた技術的交流が耐火物技術革新の駆動力となります。本協会は、官学を含めた基礎研究者、耐火物原料メーカー・輸入商社、耐火物メーカ、耐火物ユーザからの個人会員から構成され、各々の技術データを持ち寄り、基礎研究から実用耐火物開発ま
