オロチを封じる「三種の神器」のひとつ、八咫鏡を守護する存在。現在は神楽姓をなのっているが、もともとの名前は「八咫ちづる」である。オロチ一族に抗することができる人材を集めるため「KOF'96」を開催した。 三種の神器の一角である八神一族の末裔。切り裂くような体術と特有の紫炎を操る八神流古武術の使い手。オロチと血の契約を結んでおり、「血の暴走」を起こすことも。八神家と草薙家とは660年及ぶ因縁を持つ。 父、タクマ・サカザキが創設した極限流空手の道場師範代。幼少の頃から厳しい鍛錬を積み、“無敵の龍”と称されるほどの実力。我慢強く地道な努力を惜しまない性格。極限流空手の門下生を増やすため奮闘。 先祖代々受け継いできた草薙流古武術の伝承者。自由奔放な自信家で大人気ない口調も目立つが、格闘技に関しては天才的な才能の持ち主。炎を自在に操り、相手を燃やし尽くす。八神庵とは因縁のライバル。 養父である格闘家ジェフ・ボガードを暗殺したギース・ハワードへの復讐を誓い、弟アンディ・ボガードとともに格闘技の世界に身を投じる。陽気で面倒見が良く、街の子供達から慕われるヒーロー的な存在。
