工房東側に6連房の大きな登り窯があり、現在も年3～4回の窯焚きを行っています。昭和40年（1965）に工房を現在の場所に移転した際に、工房東隣の元は田んぼだった所を埋め立て、新たに登り窯を築窯し、昭和41年に完成しました。1回の窯焚きに約400束の松の割木（12、3本で1束）を燃やし、約3000個以上の陶器を2日間で焼き上げます。 6 室ある窯を下から順番に 1室ずつ焚いていき、下の部屋を焚きながらその熱が上の部屋に上がるのを利用するのが登り窯の構造です。各室とも最高 1260 ～ 1270 ℃に温度が達するまで、1 時間に約 200 本の松割木を投げ入れていきます。 窯焚きは 6 人が交代で薪を投げ入れます。一昼夜、薪を投げ続け、1200 ℃以上の炎と格闘する窯焚きは大変に厳しい作業ですが、陶工が焼きものに携わっていることを最も実感する仕事でもあります。 登り窯は常時見学でき、タイミングが良ければ窯焚きや窯出しの作業を見ていただけます。このような大きな登り窯を使っている窯元は全国的にも少なくなってきており、島根県内でも数軒となりました。 陶器の成形・釉掛けなどをする作業場。この工房の
