一澤信三郎帆布を立ち上げた際、私たちはこのブランドイメージを「布包」という字で表現しました。通常、かばんは漢字で「鞄」と書きますが、革製品ではない私たちのかばんを表すにはあまりしっくりときません。あとで聞いたところでは、中国語ではかばんを「包」と表記することがわかり、「鞄」という漢字も実は明治時代に東京の革のかばん屋さんが考案したものだとか。「布包」の文字も、100年くらい経って国語辞典に載ることがあればいいなぁと思っています。 「京都で作って、京都で売る」をモットーに、店のすぐそばの工房でかばんを作っています。自分たちの目の届く範囲で、丁寧なものづくりをし、直接お客さまにかばんを販売する「使い手の顔の見える商い」。さまざまな要望を直接お客さまからお聞きし、かばん作りに生かしていく...
