Està basada en la novel·la homònima d'Emili Teixidor ambientada a una Catalunya Rural de postguerra. Els oients de RNE a Catalunya han fet triomfar aquesta pel·lícula per davant de "Biutiful" d' Alejandro González Iñárritu i també participada per TVE que ha quedat segona.
