自然科学の創造的研究の振興助成を図ることで、日本の学術の発展と福祉の向上に寄与することを目指し、1987年の設立以来、当財団は30年にわたり、我が国における生物・生命科学および関連する化学の領域における創造的な研究と、それらに携わる研究者の交流の場である研究集会に対して助成を行ってきました。特に、成果がすぐに応用につながらなくとも、基礎的な発見や理論を積み上げることが新分野を拓き、新産業を生み出す元になると考え、基礎的な研究への助成を中心に行っています。医薬品（未承認薬を含む）を人に対して用いることにより、医薬品の有効性又は安全性を明らかにする研究は対象としておりません。 財団の活動にご期待をいただくとともに、ご支援をお願いいたします。 ノバルティス研究奨励金は、生物・生命科学、関連する化学および情報科学の領域における創造的な研究に対して助成を行うものです。医薬品（未承認薬を含む）を人に対して用いることにより、医薬品の有効性又は安全性を明らかにする研究は選考対象としておりません。研究集会助成では、我が国で開催される国際色豊かな研究集会を助成します。
