Er gehörte der anfänglich zähringischen, dann kyburgischen Dienstmannenfamilie von Halten, welche dort ihr Hofgut bewirtschaftete, und Twing und Bann zu Halten, Kriegstetten, Oekingen, Hersiwil und Recherswil mit allen den dazugehörenden Rechten verwaltete.
