当社は、九州電力(株)と日本製鉄(株)が海外から調達した液化天然ガス(LNG)を受け入れ、貯蔵、気化し、出荷する事業を主目的として、両社の共同出資により、1974(昭和49)年に設立されました。当社から出荷された天然ガスは、九州電力新小倉発電所や九州共同発電戸畑共同発電所で発電用燃料として使用されているほか、日本製鉄九州製鉄所では、圧延用の加熱源として、また、福岡・北九州地域等の都市ガスの原料としても使われています。さらに、タンクローリーおよび内航LNG船により、液化天然ガスのままでも都市ガス会社や工場等のお客さまへ供給しており、地域の産業と暮らしを支える大きな役割を果たしています。 左図のとおり、導管だけでなく、船舶や車両も利用し、お客さまニーズに沿った供給を行っています。また、気化時の冷熱を利用するなど、効率型のLNG基地を有しています。エネルギーの安定供給に万全を期すため、LNGの受入から、貯蔵そして気化して送り出すまでの一連の工程は、24時間365日休むことなく、中央制御室から集中監視制御しています。
