かつて博多には「日本一、甘いぜんざい」を食べさせるお店がありました。大正初期、福岡市博多区上川端で創業した川端ぜんざい。川原家の四姉弟、長女キク、長男甚五郎、二男平一郎、三男清蔵の丁重な仕事ぶりから生み出される強い甘味が評判となり、博多の庶民に親しまれ博多川端の名物と呼ばれるほどの人気を博していましたが、昭和六十年を最後に看板を下ろす事となります。その後、川端ぜんざいを懐かしむ声が高まり、地元商店街が主体となってアイデアを出し合い、開店営業することになりました。博多の三大名物と言えば辛子めんたいこ、水炊き、川端ぜんざい。あの懐かしい味は、今も尚この川端に生きた博多の歴史として、受け継がれています。八番山笠(走る飾り山)のかき棒です。現在山笠の寸法は３間(約５.４M)ですが、以前、明治時代に高い山笠をかついでいたころは４間(約７.２M)ありました。八番山笠は高さ約９.
