Japanese Red Cross Society Okinawa Chapter
日本赤十字社沖縄県支部は、1889年（明治22年）に沖縄委員部として誕生し、1896年（明治29年）に沖縄支部と改称され活動を行っていましたが、太平洋戦争末期の1945年（昭和20年）、米軍の沖縄上陸によりすべての事業の停止を余儀なくされました。 その後、米国施政権下の1948年（昭和23年）に沖縄臨時厚生協会を設置して事業を再開し、1950年（昭和25年）の琉球臨時厚生協会への改組を経て1954年（昭和29年）に沖縄内のみの呼称として沖縄赤十字社に名称変更、1959年（昭和34年）に琉球政府より財団法人沖縄赤十字社として認可されました。 1972年（昭和47年）の沖縄の本土復帰に伴い、財団法人沖縄赤十字社は解散登記をして日本赤十字社へ組織移行し、日本赤十字社沖縄県支部が設置されました。 沖縄県支部は、「人道」を理念に国際救援・開発協力、災害救護、安全講習会普及、ボランティア活動、青少年赤十字活動など、さまざまな活動を行っています。 これらの活動は、県民からお寄せいただいた活動資金や寄付を財源として行われています。 また、県内には赤十字病院、血液センター、福祉施設があり、同じく「人道」
