わが国は、銅、亜鉛、鉛、金、銀、ニッケル等の原料となる 鉱物資源のほとんどを海外鉱山から調達しています。 非鉄金属鉱業界では、海外における鉱山開発への参加や自主開発を行って鉱物資源を獲得し、 それを製錬加工した銅、亜鉛、鉛、金、銀、ニッケル等をわが国の産業界に安定供給しています。 また、鉱山や製錬で培ってきた長年の経験や技術等を活かして、製錬業の国際競争力の強化、GX（グリーントランスフォーメーション）の推進、循環型社会構築に向けた事業環境の整備、鉱山保安と環境対策、鉛と亜鉛の需要開発などにも取り組んでいます。
