Japan Meat Grading Association
日本における食肉規格格付事業は、昭和36年代に公布された畜産物の価格安定等に関する法律の施行と共に実施され、その後、全国的な展開をみてきました。 当時は社団法人日本食肉協議会がこの事業を実施しておりましたが、食肉需給規模が年々拡大し、流通形態も大量かつ広域的な流通へと進展し、経済性の高い肉畜生産及び流通の指標としての規格格付の重要性と、より一層の公共性が要求されるようになりました。 このような状況に対処して食肉規格格付事業を専門的に行う機関として、昭和50年2月1日に当時の畜産振興事業団（現在、独立行政法人 農畜産業振興機構）、都道府県、生産者団体及び流通団体を会員として、日本食肉協議会の格付事業部門を分離継承して社団法人日本食肉格付協会が設立され、今日に至っております。
