沖縄県のサトウキビ農業は農家の高齢化も進み、手刈りによる収穫は大変な作業となっています。このような状況にかんがみ、少しでもお役に立とうと「農業農村を応援する大学生サークルネット」（加盟13大学、代表 中里良一）では、糸満市内のサトウキビ圃場においてサトウキビ刈リの作業を応援する「サトウキビ刈リ応援・交流会」（協力：(一財)日本グラウンドワーク協会）を実施しました。大学生サークルは、明治大学「楽農」4Hクラブ、新潟大学新大むらづくり応援隊、名城大学地域共創隊WITH、神戸大学地域おこしサークル水芭蕉、島根大学地域創生・結しまね、琉球大学おきなわ食・農研究会の6大学、35名の学生が参加しました。まず、農家からサトウキビ農業の厳しい現状（後継者がいない、耕作放棄地が急増、サトウキビがなくなるなど）のお話がありました。学生のほとんどがサトウキビ刈リ初体験でしたが、農家の指導を受けながら、①茎の根元を斧で切る、②切られた茎を一か所に運ぶの2つに分かれて作業を行いました。ハブに用心とういうお話もありました。体力がある大学生によりスピーディーに作業が進みました。作業後、農家から感謝の言葉が述べられま
