このような伝統を守る一方、研究対象の拡大や発信方法の革新にも積極的に取り組んでおります。早く 1954 年に日本学士院から委嘱を受けて在外日本関係史料の調査・収集を進めるとともに、海外への日本史情報の発信など日本史の国際化にも努め、中国・韓国をはじめとする諸外国の史料所蔵機関・編纂機関との連携を深めています。1997 年には画像史料解析センターを開設して絵画史料や古写真の研究を推進し、2006 年には前近代日本史情報国際センターを設立して新たに歴史情報学に取り組み始めました。2009 年には「日本史史料の研究資源化に関する研究拠点」に認定され、各地の研究者・博物館・自治体等と協力してこれまでに 250 件近くの共同研究を推進し、その成果を共同利用に供しています。2019 年には日本学術振興会の人文学・社会科学データインフラストラクチャー構築推進事業の唯一の人文学拠点として採択され、2023 年からはその成果を踏まえた同強化事業の中核機関として人文学全体のデータ共有・利活用を促進する基盤の構築を進めています。 史料の研究と史料集編纂の前提として、国内外に数多く伝来する史料の調査と収集を百
