火车头群众体育工作始终坚持面向基层,面向职工的宗旨,以群体活动为载体，以增强铁路职工体质为目标,按照国家体育总局的部署,积极建设职工身边的场地,健全职工身边的组织开展职工身边的体育活动,努力增强专兼职体育工作者的服务和创新意识,注重深入调查研究,认真总结先进经验,坚持以典型引路,实行科学指导。经过全路上下各级领导和广大职工的共同努力,铁路系统体育多元化服务体系已基本建成。目前铁路建成健身路径2000多条(片),篮球场4156块,排球场2254块,网球场268块,门球场2080块,羽毛球场3480块,足球场200块游泳池81个,体育馆50个,游泳馆25个。 根据全国铁路群众体育发展状况调查统计,全路群众体育达标单位达到8000多个,达标率达71.4,体育人口已达职工总数的60%左右。通过第一次全国职工体质检测调查,铁路职工检测率已达到63.
