多年來，視盟致力於開發並整合視覺藝術環境現有資源，監督政府文化政策，支持或規劃相關視覺藝術與創新計畫，為個人、團體和機構提供專業諮詢，組織或貢獻各種專業。透過規劃展覽、講座活動，並推動國際交流計畫，進行社區及藝術教育，與建置資料庫等多項內容，促進藝術的參與和教育，鼓勵擴展藝術交流與對話。主要工作包含監督和參與公共事務、經營「福利社」與「臺北數位藝術中心」兩大展覽空間、建置「台灣當代藝術資料庫」、執行「台灣當代一年展」、辦理「國際交流計劃」以及實踐「社區與藝術教育」，進一步擴大與嫁接藝術從業者與社會間的聯繫，實現視盟一直以來所堅持的核心價值與願景，與藝術家站在一起，創造更健全的藝術從業環境。 「社團法人台灣視覺藝術協會」是一個中介型非營利組織，又稱「視覺藝術聯盟」，簡稱「視盟」。自 1999 年成立至今，以服務藝術社群為主要宗旨。創會之初即招募到許多視覺藝術創作者、策展人、藝評人、藝術研究者、藝術行政工作者與藝術教育工作者加入成為會員，協會成長拓展的過程中，陸續有理念與藝術專業範疇相同的同好及團體相繼加入，包含有畫廊與藝術經紀公司、畫會團體等，匯集了視覺藝術專業中的各種從業者，至今已累積
